Step 1: Divide Your Page

Draw a vertical line about 2.5 inches (6 cm) from the left margin of your page, leaving a larger right-hand section. At the bottom of the page, reserve about 2 inches (5 cm) for a summary section.

Step 2: Take Notes in the Right Section

During a lecture or while reading, jot down main ideas, key details, and important facts in the larger right-hand section. Use bullet points or short phrases to make it concise.

Step 3: Add Cues in the Left Section

After the lecture, review your notes and write keywords, questions, or main ideas in the left-hand section to help with recall.

Step 4: Summarize at the Bottom

Write a brief summary of the main points covered on that page in your own words. This reinforces learning and helps with quick reviews.

Step 5: Review and Revise

Regularly review your notes, cover the right-hand section, and use the cues to test your knowledge. This active recall method improves retention.
